Rock Hill Video Project: BeaconMedaes
We love to go back and share what we’ve learned from our projects. It’s not only great for our team, but it also helps you as a client get ready for your shoot. Just think of this as kinda a cheat sheet for an exam.
Recently we were hired to produce training videos for BeaconMedaes, a company in Rock Hill, SC that specializes in air, vacuum, oxygen, and gas distribution systems. A lot of their equipment lives in hospitals, so it is very important work. And we took this very seriously about making sure that we got all the details correct. We actually ended up adding another filming day because there was so much detail.
We’ve got a sample of one of our training videos here. Just like you, they found our website online and contacted us for this video training series.
Importance of a Video Producer on Set
Originally we were going to try to do a one person shoot to keep costs lower, but quickly realized during our meeting that we needed a producer on set so that we could keep track of all the details of the machines and make sure that we didn’t miss any shots. We actually ended up using a pick-up shoot day because in editing and review we realized we had missed some things.
Video Script & Pick-Up Shoot Days
It’s really nice to set expectations, especially for people who haven’t been on a lot of professional video shoots, or at least with a company that does them well. I had a client shocked when we came in and thought we went way above and beyond compared to their last video vendor. It was funny because it was a normal day for us.
An important thing to keep in mind when setting up your video shoot is having a locked in script. Especially for video assets like training videos, it’s important to have a meeting talking about all the different content and information that we need cover. Our team will do everything we can to make the shoot a breeze, but when it comes to certain details in your industry or with your products, those are the things we’ll have to be caught up to speed on. And we still won’t know everything. I was embarrassed how many times I had to ask about features and buttons and valves on these big pieces of machinery on this shoot. So having a script with all the information correct is so important in saving money on your budget so we don’t have to come back in and do a reshoot. And if any mistake on us (like part of it was on this shoot), we’ll take care of it for you. We’re all human, right? But spending time on a script or bullet points for video projects like this will definitely help save you some time and money.
The other thing to keep in mind is to expect a pick-up day (an extra day to pick up shots of anything that may have been missed or needs to be redone), especially for bigger, more detailed and informative shoots. And if we don’t need it, then you save that extra money and time! Double win.
Revisions
On typical projects the revisions we receive aren’t usually overly extensive, but this is probably where some anxiety comes into play for you. I’m speaking specifically to a project similar to this training series now. This editing process took a little bit longer and more meetings because of all the details. We literally brought up the edit during a video meeting to ask about certain features on the machines.
You yourself may see the first version of a video and it’s not everything you expected. That’s totally normal! The first version is usually rough without any of the bells and whistles, the right music, edited sound, full color, etc. Think of it as the bones of the video. We just want to make sure that the main structure is working. Then it may take one more time of edits to get that right. Think of this part as a collaborative journey. Our goal is to make you happy with the work and to have the video or videos hit your goals. And some of that takes reworking. Totally normal. So don’t be discouraged if it takes a little bit of time in this part of the process.
These are just a few of the things that we learned during this video project. If you’re in Rock Hill, Fort Mill, Charlotte, or any of the surrounding areas and looking for a video production team to handle video ads, internal videos, marketing videos, commercials, corporate videos, training videos, or anything of that sort, don’t hesitate to reach out to our team!
